A couple Saturday’s ago my friend Amanda and I had a great time visiting several local events all involving food!! Many of those who know me know that I love to eat and I love to try and eat healthy foods. We went to Winter Garden’s Farmers Market, Lake Meadows Farm and Tom West for blueberry picking.
If you’ve never noticed the seafood guy that’s at the front of the market I highly recommend him. A patient referred him to me and I was not disappointed. I didn’t think I would be because this particular patient is an amazing cook. He had beautiful, fresh seafood that has never been frozen!!! His prices were amazing and I’m so excited to eat the delicious salmon, mussels and shrimp I got today.
Next, we went on to pick blueberries at Tom West. It is a wonderful blueberry farm that has sweet and tart bushes you can chose from. Amanda and I headed to the sweet bushes and she taught what to look for and how to find the ripest berry. We picked for about 45 minutes and gathered 5 pounds total between the two of us.
Lastly, we visited Lake Meadows Farm in Ocoee. We had a great time looking at goats, playing with chickens and shopping in the farm store. My favorite part by far was seeing all the baby chicks, ducks, turkeys and guinea hens. I am a HUGE animal lover so this was quite a special treat. The farm store offers everything from antibiotic and hormone free meats, to fresh cheeses, eggs you can pick yourself from the coop and locally grown vegetables. The price was surprisingly good…it was about the same as Whole Foods with the advantage of being very close! It is definitely a place all locals should try.
So if any of you are looking for fun things to do on a weekend here are a few places to give a try! I’m so thankful all of this is basically in my backyard and I’m thrilled to share the news with all of you.
